Honestly, how has it been one year already? It only seems like yesterday that I was getting ready for my very first interview for the role of Projects Assistant. Today, I am coming very to close to becoming a proper employee in Unit Twenty Three
I remember on the 14th September 2015, my first contracted day, I walked into the small orange office to meet the faces of Emrys Green and Joshua Gould, where I was informed of all of the insides and outsides of Unit Twenty Three, every little detail. That's also where I learnt about the role of the Voice Reporter (but we'll get onto that later ;) and the Arts Award qualification, which is now coming close to completion!
Of course, most of you know what I've been up to in the last 4 months, but loads has happened since then - I've been to the Brighton Fringe, I've been to the Edinburgh Fringe, I helped to promote & run a community arts festival (Diss fest) which consisted of all types of art forms, I've been to London & Coventry, I helped to run the Gold Expo, and I've learned so much in such a short space of time.
The coursework, despite being annoying and at times a bit tedious, really helped me to keep track of what I was achieving, and I was learning new things that I would never have learned if I went to university. I really believe that I've changed over the past 12 months, and I've met the most wonderful who've all helped me to come out of my unconfident, introverted shell and embrace new challenges & the big wide world of work. I'm being serious; I have no idea what I would be doing if it wasn't for you lot.
Well, what next? Where do I take my experience now? For now, I intend to continue my work here at Unit Twenty Three for at least another 6 months, and then I will explore my options - will I go into marketing? How about journalism? Or maybe be a projects assistant elsewhere? Who knows! But I am definitely keeping an open mind on job opportunities and career options that I happen to come across in the meantime, and I will always remember what Unit Twenty Three and Arts Award have given me over this past amazing year - a career.
