In the year Billy Elliot turned ten, is ballet still a difficult choice for men?
Since the early 19th century, Western culture has depicted male ballet dancers as weak, effeminate or homosexual. Studies have shown that teenagers in particular can have a highly stereotypical view of gender-specific sports, and these views make people less confident in breaking out of their shell and indulging in activities or arts that are seen as 'effeminate' or 'manly'.

Where are they now?...with Dan Ponting
Dan Ponting was part of Arts Award's Gold pilot scheme over ten years ago. He has since completed a Fine Art degree, had work shown in Tate Modern and won a Royal Photographic Society competition. He currently works as a graphic designer.

We're excited to announce that thanks to funding from Norfolk Community Foundation, The Taylor Hammond Foundation and Diss Town Council we are recruiting a team of young people from South Norfolk to train in running events and who will be spear heading #dissfest with us in 2016! Their first event is set for March as a warm up to the weekend festival.
