Mysore Brothers Carnatic Violin Concert

Review of Carnatic Violin performance by the Mysore brothers in the Bhavan.

On the 19th of March I attended a violin performance by the Mysore brothers in the Bhavan, London. I have attended many Carnatic performances at the Bhavan however this performance was by far the most emotional and beautiful performance. Not only were the musicians filled with talent they were also filled with devotion and passion, which was clearly visible in the songs they played throughout the performance.

The Mysore brothers are an Indian Carnatic violinist duet. 2 brothers called Mysore Nagaraj and Mysore Manjunath. They studied and trained from their father an accomplished violinist called Sri Mahadevappa. From a very young age both the brothers showed great potential and love for Carnatic music, Mysore Manjunath played at his first concert at the age of 8, Later he was awarded the sangeet Natak Akademi which is the highest Indian recognition given to people in the field of performing arts.

The Carnatic Violin event started at 6:00pm and ended at 9:15pm. Throughout the performance many songs in various ragas such as were played. The use of gamakas and alapana made the performance very emotional yet at the same time catchy. As a violin student myself the performance was inspiring and gave me hope that one day, I too will have such talent and passion.

The atmosphere in the bhavan was amazing and the connection between violin and violinist was clearly visible.
