Launch of LoveReading LitFestival

Literary festivals are one of the many events having to migrate to virtual platforms throughout the past year, and LoveReading LitFestival is the latest digital offering for literature lovers.

Launch of LoveReading LitFestival

LoveReading LitFestival marks a collaboration between events industry professionals from Lockdown LitFest – which was ‘born in the time of COVID-19 to bring a real-world festival experience to your home screens’ – and the UK’s leading book recommendation website LoveReading. The mission of the festival is to enable its members to discover new authors of all genres through panel discussions, interviews and masterclasses, among other events. It will also delve behind the scenes of the publishing industry with showcases and interviews with professionals at all levels.

For their subscription, members will have access to interviews with global authors such as popular detective novelist Linwood Barclay, comedian and writer David Baddiel, as well as introductions to debut authors like Hafsa Zayan who's recently published novel We Are All Birds of Uganda has received critical acclaim. Authors will be participating in readings, in a series called ‘Opening Chapters’, and there are also book competitions to enter. On top of this, viewers will be able to purchase any books that catch their interest through the festival’s website.

LoveReading Litfestival is a direct response to the needs of book lovers in lockdown. A 2020 survey by Reading Agency of 2000 people showed that nearly 1 in 3 (31%) of people are reading more during lockdown, and there has been a particular spike among young people (18-24) where almost half (45%) are reading more than before lockdown started.

The managing director of the LoveReading website, Deborah Mclaren, says ‘What unites us all is a passion for books and stories, and an ongoing desire to support authors and readers. It will also be an opportunity to get behind independent publishers and bookshops at a time when many are struggling to keep afloat during this incredibly challenging time.’
