STAYING STRONG

This is my final piece for my gold mixed media arts award

STAYING STRONG

My final piece is about being strong.

I have tried to illustrate the feeling of staying strong in this mixed media piece. The dragonfly breaking free from a cage as the chaos stays below is made from a glue gun.

I took the main photo then printed it and pasted onto canvas. I used layering techniques to add an effect to the background. I made the cage, the word life and several other pieces using a glue gun.

I mixed gold, blue and rose paints to get an ancient look.

I wanted the skills i have studied to show in my work but also to tell a story of a struggle.

Although i struggled i stood tall and kept going like a dragonfly in the wind.

Lovely textures and the ageing effect is well done, I did think that the dragon fly could perhaps have been a little more obvious or with some other colours also as in relation to 'sails', it represented yourself? The look on your face told that there was still some sadness or fear as the smile was not completely genuine, which is another way of saying sometimes to be strong we put on a brave face and carry on. Personally i would like to see more of the blue in the photo coming through in the rest of the piece so there is more harmony and not so much separation, the gold perhaps might be better as highlights over a much richer blue, which could represent the sea and emotions.................Other wise very well done! keep going on this wonderful creative journey. Temariah has been a valued contributor to the Waterlea Adventure Photography Club, showing creativity and natural talent at our weekly sessions. Her final piece not only draws on her photographic ability, but also her artistic skills, as she blends and mixes media to great effect. I’m a fan of the emotional resonance she brings to a simple photograph by adding a personally affecting piece of text and textures that complement and amplify the meaning behind that text. The clever colour choices and interesting choice of materials are impressive! We are looking forward to welcoming Temariah back to the club when it returns this spring.
