Kate Lomas’ ‘Happy Like This’ has been added to the #BTTVMusic playlist in advance of a triumphant gig at The Grace in Islington last night. The up-and-coming pop princess brought her succarine-tinged melodies to a packed out room in Islington’s newest music venue last night, ‘Happy Like This’ being one of them.
It’s a song dedicated to living in the moment, an urge to slow down, take stock and appreciate what you have instead of looking back to the past or worrying about the future. It’s a dreamy-sounding pop song which harkens back to the days of sipping Coke out of glass bottles and whiling away the days in the sun with friends and without constantly checking Instagram. When the chorus kicks in, its one which demands to be shouted from the rooftops, preferably into the sunset when you’re about to jump into a pool fully clothed at a party, sipping on one of those aforementioned Cokes. As it turns out, being sung/yelled by a room full of people in a new music venue in Islington is a pretty close second.
In a year where Kate has performed at the world-renowned Glastonbury festival, racked up 1.5M Spotify streams, been featured on BBC Radio 1 and performed at Abbey Road studios in Maida Vale, it seems like the sky really is the limit for this pop newcomer.
Her performance at The Grace is nothing short of a triumph, with Lomas bouncing around the stage full of the kind of energy which has propelled her to great heights over the part 12 month whirlwind that this year has been.
