My Arts Award challenge was to learn how to knit. I had never knitted before and it is something I have always wanted to do. I joined a knitting group at a Haberdashery store in my local area and was taught by two ladies called Jane and Nina who own the shop and give workshops. I also went to a knitting festival called Unravel 2018 in Farnham. My favourite stall at the festival was Sincerely Louise they made some pretty animal knits.
I also got to meet the artist Kate Talbot at the Unravel Festival I really liked her work, I took some photos of her knitted works. Kate studied Graphic Design and Fine Art before turning her attention to Illustration. Her work has received much attention and has been exhibited alongside Tracy Emin and Grayson Perry. Kate draws with thread and wool, creating layers of colour and texture which pull the viewer in. Her work is very colourful and unique.
I have enjoyed learning to knit and I have found a new hobby that I will continue to use. I hope a lot more young people have a go at knitting as well, I have really enjoyed it and it’s great to make things you can wear. Now I have learnt how to knit a scarf, fingerless gloves, a hat, dolls and a jumper. I also made a phone case and socks and also teddy bears as well. I will continue to practice and get better and make more knitted things.
This looks fantastic! I'm also going to study Graphic Design, so it's nice to know that I can do more with it.
