'Revival' - Eminem

Marshall Mathers (more commonly known by his stage name Eminem) has been one of the favoured artists in the hip-hop scene for over two decades now, due to his incredible ability of connecting words to make one-of-a-kind rhymes - something he arguably does better than any other big names in the rap industry.

'Revival' - Eminem

As I had particularly enjoyed listening to his last two albums, The Marshall Mathers LP2 and Recovery, I decided to buy Eminem's latest album release, titled Revival. Seeing as it's been around four years since Eminem released his previous album I really wasn't sure whether this title would live up to the previous ones that I enjoyed very much - now, having listened to it several times since I bought it, I think I can safely say it doesn't fail to impress...

It's very difficult for me to pin down just one or two tracks as being my favourites from the album, as every track on here is worth a listen!
Not to mention the collaborative tracks you will find on here, featuring some top names in modern music such as Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé and Alicia Keys.

Something that listeners of Eminem may pick up on is his occasional tendency to sample other well-known music as a rhythm for his raps - particularly classic rock numbers, such as Queen's We Will Rock You, Aerosmith's Dream On and The Zombies' Time of the Season - Eminem once again brings rock to hip-hop with the track Remind Me, this time with Joan Jett's I Love Rock n' Roll, as well as Heat from John C. Reilly and Mark Wahlberg's Feel the Heat, from Boogie Nights!

Those who like Rap God, the hit from his previous album, may appreciate Offended, as he returns with another fast-paced verse, continuing to demonstrate his capability of rapping at an impressive speed.

A common praise I hear from Eminem fans over the web is the subjects which he bases his raps on - The struggles that he has faced or still faces, which are relatable in some form to each individual in their own circumstance. I found the end of the album to be emotionally moving, particularly with the combination of tracks Castle and Arose, which focus on his feelings and anxieties during the birth of his first daughter, and nearly losing his life to an over-dosage of methadone.

To summarise, Eminem keeps his highly rated, iconic style of rhyme-writing while avoiding any repetitiveness by offering a fresh and innovative sound through the mix of other artists and samples, making Revival a highly recommended album to pick up and listen to, whether you're a fan of Eminem or otherwise!

I'm not a massive fan of hip-hop myself, but upon listening to "The Marshall Mathers LP" my mind was blown wide open. I definitely have a lot of respect for Eminem and his artistry
