“An Evening Of Radiohead”: As the name implies, this was a tribute gig of the band Radiohead. It was hosted at Peterborough Cathedral on the 18th of May. I saw this with my family, and personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Here's why.

I am not a Radiohead fan. Other than a few songs, I didn’t really listen to them; I had always been more into genres like jazz and funk. I had heard a lot of good things about Radiohead, but I never found a reason to start listening to them. That was until I was asked if I wanted to join my family to see a tribute gig of them. I was intrigued by the idea and decided to give it a shot. I loved it! The music was fun and interesting but also melancholic and beautiful. I really resonated with the aesthetic and vibe that they brought.

The Cathedral itself provided an incredibly beautiful space to be in. The carefully crafted stone arches, glowing natural light and echoing acoustics created a fantastic atmosphere. They had two bar venues set up to the side and outdoor bathrooms. Unfortunately because of the size of the audience this created a lot of queuing to use these facilities.

Additionally, this was a sitting gig. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of sitting gigs as I find them to be less expressive and dynamic as standing gigs. The chairs themselves were rather uncomfortable so that contributed to that feeling. Overall, the Cathedral proved to be an incredible atmospheric place to hold the gig.

The cover band themselves were absolutely brilliant. Their great use of violins and other mixed music mediums gave a great dynamism to the songs; they even brought out a grand piano. Radiohead is a difficult band to pull off, but they did it beautifully, as my mum put it, “If you close your eyes, at some points you couldn’t tell it wasn’t them.” The renditions of the songs were masterfully put together, the singer was stellar and it ended up being a great performance from all of them.

I’m glad I got to come with my family because it allowed me to enjoy the concert with others and discuss what we did and didn’t like and it was nice to be able to share that with them. I find that gigs are almost always more fun with others.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with “An Evening Of Radiohead”. This event has inspired me to listen to more Radiohead whether it be on runs, whilst working or on long drives, Radiohead has become a new part of my own music taste and I am glad I came.
