Review: Cirque du Soleil - Alegria - Royal Albert Hall

This is a review for Part B of my Bronze Arts Award

Cirque de Soleil Review

What arts event did you experience?

Cirque de Soleil

Alegria: In a New Light

What evidence do you have that you went?

A program, tickets, and photos.

What happened at the arts event? What art forms were involved?

The show was formed of different sections containing a circus skill (powertrack, acro poles, synchronized flying trapeze, juggling, fire knife dance, aerial straps, trapeze, contortion, and hula hoops) in between each circus section there was a clowning section which used acting. During the circus performances they had two singers. They also had incredible costumes and incredibly detailed makeup.

Why did you go to this event?

It was a birthday present for my dad. Also, I love gymnastics, so it was something I really wanted to see.

What did you like about it, and why?

I loved all the circus displays, but my favourites are the tumbling, because as I do trampolining and gymnastics, I feel like I can relate to how hard it is and the trapeze act where they were flying through the air to get caught as it gave me a big adrenaline rush.

Was there anything you didn’t like, and why?

I found the story very confusing, and I couldn’t understand it. It didn’t help that they were speaking French, but I don’t think I would be able to understand it anyway. It made the clown sections, though still funny, not super interesting, as I had no idea what was going on.

Would you recommend this to others? Why, why not?

I would recommend this to others as the performances were incredible however I would perhaps warn them about the slightly confusing clowning intervals and advise them to look up the story first as I think that would have helped.

What did you learn from this arts event?

That light (good) will triumph over dark (bad).

How will you share your review with other people?

Be posting it onto my social group and Voice Mag

What show would you like to go see next?

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
