Applications for five new commissions of acousmatic music are being rolled out over the next five months by Ryoanji Records as part of a new Arts Council England bid.
The commission includes a fee of £750, which will be given to the five lucky composers in order to create 40 - 74 minutes of new music. This may be one long-form work or a series of pieces and will be released digitally (through Bandcamp and streaming services), along with 50 hand-numbered limited-edition CDs.
If successful, all works must be completed by March 2022 to be sent mastered and pressed to CD, and composers must participate in a Zoom presentation talking to young people about themselves and their new release.
As part of their ‘Keychange pledge’, the first, third, and fifth callouts will be open to only female-identifying composers.
To apply, you must send three examples of previous works (available online), as well as a one-page proposal describing you and your work. You must also explain the motivation behind your proposal for the new work.
Proposals for the first callout must be emailed to [email protected] by 11:59 pm on Monday 20th December. Dates for other callouts will be advertised on their Instagram.
