Emmys 2015

This year's Emmy Awards ceremony was one of breaking records.

The Emmys themselves awarded the highest award for an actress to a Black performer for the first time ever. It went to Viola Davis for her turn in How To Get Away With Murder. She gave a moving acceptance speech addressing the inequality in the industry.

Game of Thrones - despite a lacklustre previous season - won the most awards ever for a programme in a single year ever with 14.

HBO, the home of GoT, won the most awards for a cable channel ever in a single year with 43.

The oldest winner of the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy ever went to Jeffrey Tambor, aged 71. He also gave a moving acceptance speech, dedicating his award and performance to the transgender community.

Only one British win this year going to perhaps the most prolific Briton in television bar Simon Cowell - Armando Ianucci winning the award for Best Comedy Series for his creation, Veep. Also, in his first appearance after the accident that saw him in a coma for a week, Tracy Morgan thanked the Emmys when he presented the award for Best Drama Series. Amy Schumer's debut, Inside Amy Schumer won its first Emmy from its first series in the brand new category for Outstanding Sketch Variety Series. A surprisingly tame night for the previously sweeping Orange is the New Black, the only award for which going, again, to Uzo Aduba for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
