    Love this! It's devastating to see the physical lack of support for musicians and music educators from the government this past year; it's not priority. Oddly enough, I heard more people complaining about the maths syllabus consisting of non-essential information when I was in school for people who aren't planning on becoming engineers or physicists, yet it remains a core subject.

    While I agree with Ophelia that 'major/minor=happy/sad' is a Western concept, and I do think we should incorporate more music from other cultures into the syllabus (the US sends 'jazz ambassadors' abroad to promote US culture in an effort for increased interconnectedness between nations, so I hope we see something similar reciprocated soon), it doesn't mean it doesn't have value or relevance to bring it up in a discussion about music education in the West; I have a 6 month old daughter and I have to be very careful about the pieces I play as she can burst into tears when I start playing pieces in a minor key!

    Incredible. I watched 'The Crown' and it is so well-produced I sometimes did catch myself confusing those lines and feeling like I was some sort of 'fly on the wall' and it did to some extent deepen my anti-monarchist view but, as so often happens, I forgot just a couple of days after I'd finished watching it! So I suppose that's also a testament to our very limited attention spans these days.
