This is a great review, Mystaya, that really evokes the atmosphere of the festival and makes me wish I'd been there. Really glad you enjoyed it so much!

Brick Lane: A case study for gentrification gone wrong by Hafsa Khizar

So sad to see this happening to Brick Lane. `Lots of jobs' is the magic phase to make anything sound good. But what kind of jobs and will the people doing them be able to afford to live anywhere in the area? Zero hour contract service jobs on minimum wage aren't going to help anyone but the employer.

Boris Johnson: is there still hope? by Tom Inniss

You’re right about self preservation being his first priority and I hope the rest plays out as you suggest. Having achieved his lifelong aim to be PM he will do anything to hang on to that power and we all know he has no principles he will not sell down the river.

This is a really fascinating read! It explains what being a conservator means and explains why it's a creative role. I'll quote Jon Privett's explanation that 'in order to be able to fix or conserve something, you first must understand how things are made' when I'm talking to museum people about the museum roles that Arts Award includes under the catch-all term `artist'. Congratulations to Francesca too for following what she knew she wanted to do despite all the challenges and lack of support from her school.

This is fascinating but depressing reading. Like you, I would expect that anyone who signed up for a volunteering programme, especially one that costs that much, would do it because they want to contribute and learn from the experience. I'm sure you could have a 10 week drink and drugs binge for less money if that's what you're interested in, though I guess that Operation Raleigh looks better on a CV.... I'm glad you meet some good people and made the most of the amazing opportunities and I'm in awe of you completing the trek!

Great to see you still reviewing, Holly. I love your straightforward opinions about what worked for you and didn’t: people pushing past to get drinks while bands are playing annoys me too. Sounds like a great night!
