Pride and Prejudice

This is a review of my visit to see Pride and Prejudice at Norwich Theatre Royal.

Pride and Prejudice

I went to see Pride and Prejudice at Norwich Theatre Royal on Tuesday 27th September 2016. The story was about a woman called Mrs Bennet who has five daughters who need to get married off. There is a ball which all her daughters attend and the oldest sister Jane falls in love with a guy called Mr Bingley. Later, Lydia runs off with a 'dreadful' soldier called George Wickham and writes back every now and again. During that Elizabeth Bennet (Lizzie) and Mr Darcy aren't sure about their feelings for each other.Mr Bingley's sister, Miss Bingley, strongly dislikes Lizzie and tries to distract Mr Darcy from her, which just makes him love Lizzie even more! Then along comes Mr Lucas who none of the sisters liked, but he was the cousin of the five sisters, so it was ideal for one of them to marry him. He proposed to Lizzie but she said no. So then he moved on and the girls' friend Charlotte married him instead. Most of the play is about the relationship between Lizzie and Mr Darcy. Both of them are proud and strong willed characters, who often misunderstand each other. But Mr Darcy comes to the rescue when Lydia runs off with George Wickham. So by the end of the story three of the sisters are married which are: Jane, Lizzy and Lydia leaving Mary and Kitty to find husbands later on…

What did I like or dislike about the show?

I loved it because of the strategies they used to act and how they put a lot of feeling into what they were doing - it was great. They often used freezing of characters in the middle of actions which looked very effective. I loved it! My favourite character in Pride and Prejudice was Lizzie (Elizabeth) because she was strong minded and didn't do anything she didn't want to and stood up for what she wanted. Mr Bennett was very funny because he never seemed bothered by anything and seemed to ignore his wife and her nerves! He made me laugh.

How was it different from my expectations?

It was different because of the set and how it rotated for each scene. It was a revolving stage with wrought-iron gate type structures and a balcony.I didn't know the personalities of the characters before I saw the show so it was quite different to what I imagined...in a good way! I didn't really know the story too well before I went to see it but once the show had started it felt like I had known it all along.

How did being in the audience make me feel?

Great! I loved the show it was fantastic it made me feel happy and excited being able to see it and tell others and encourage them to go and see it. There are some very funny bits and the cast is so professional and totally engaged into what they're doing and do their best. I enjoyed every bit.

Would I recommend it to others?

Yes. I would recommend it - it was amazing I think people should definitely go and see it because it's amazing!!! The actors were great and did the show really well. So yes I would definitely recommend this for probably 10+. It was a great night out!

What a well structured review. I know it's a vastly well known story but I'd still try not to give away this much of the plot! Still though it sounds like it was a great production of a play that's really hard to pull off.

I have a strange feeling that I've seen the main actors somewhere before...?
