Des Bishop: Grey Matters

A witty, engaging and energetic show that is sure to make you laugh

Des Bishop: Grey Matters

Des Bishop is funny and perceptive and his stand up routine had the whole audience laughing for the majority of his hour-long show. Grey Matters is inspired by his recent 40th birthday and how he feels reaching that age without a family of his own. His insights on his brother's parenting techniques were witty and relatable and while I wasn't laughing out loud the whole time, I certainly couldn't keep the smile off my face.

Bishop warmed up as his set progressed and in the second section of his show - which is divided into three parts - I found myself laughing regularly at his reminiscence of the difficulties of a life without mobile phones. Even though he was often talking about things I don't have much (or any) experience with, he managed to make them funny for me too, which I thought was a talent in itself. At times he got very overexcited and reminded me slightly of a cartoon character, but overall he was very engaging. I was particularly impressed by how conscious he was of how the audience received everything he said and responded accordingly, which meant there was never a long pause between laughs.

A guaranteed laugh for almost any age.
