Interview with Brennan Reece

We speak to comedian Brennan Reece about his third show at Edinburgh Fringe

Interview with Brennan Reece

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

Hello. I’m Brennan Reece a working-class Mancunian humourist who specialises in telling stories and making your Mum laugh.

Tell us about your show?

This is my third show, the third part of a three part trilogy of three stories. This one follows my love of love. As a kid obsessed with falling in love, and realising that it’s a bit harder than you see in the films.

Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and is it different from other festivals?

It’s a beautiful city for a start and it’s the world’s biggest arts festival. It keeps you on your toes and allows you to take risks, creative risks, financial risks, culinary risks (some of the food there is terrible).

What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?

Me. I think I always wanted to give stand up a go for fun, and then it went well. And it’s like a drug (I imagine) where if you’ve had a little bit, you want a bit more and a bit more till you can’t stop!

I was and still am inspired by old comedy. Morcambe And Wise, Dave Allen, Victoria Wood...they were true, true professionals!

Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?

No. I don’t read the news. If you want to find out about the world you can turn on the Internet. If you want a beautiful story that will make you laugh and cry and gasp and laugh again, then come see me!

Equally, do you feel there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?

I am not sure what public sentiment means. But yeah, why not.

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

The absolute hardest year ever.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show up to the fringe?

Do it. There is all this fake pressure of nominations and silly rules that don’t mean anything. If you have a good idea or just want to express yourself...bloody do it!

And what advice do you wish you’d been given when entering the industry?

Focus on you. Get good, gig lots and run your own race.

When and where can people see your show?

Pleasance Courtyard everyday (even that last Monday) at 6pm

And where can people find, follow and like you online?

@brennanreece on all social media
