John Hastings takes some time to talk to Voice about the show, inspirations, and to give advice to young people.

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

I am John Hastings a silly billy from Canada who is here to make you laugh and be a dutty bad boy!

How would you describe your show?

One man was trying to be political and uh oh fart jokes again!

Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

I like pies, and the opportunity to progress my career!

What differentiates it from other festivals?

Size, length and girth…OF THE FESTIVAL (boom penis joke lol lol lol). Seriously though it's just the funnest [sic] month for all the acts unless the show does not go well. Then yer screwed.

Do you think the Fringe has changed over the years? If so, how? Are these changes positive or negative?

I have no idea its only my 6th year. It's been mostly the same as long as I have been going.

What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?

Billy Connolly came to be in a dream and said be a comedian. He is also my north star.

If you didn't have your current job, what would you probably be doing?

Teacher or homeless man

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

Teacher of Homeless man

What is your earliest childhood art memory?

Not liking my purple pjs.

Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?

Sorta, but I am not great at to be honest!

Equally, do you think there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?

People are angrier to be sure but just get louder and you will out shout them morons.

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

Fun long hard fun fart

If you could work with anybody, from any point in history, who would you pick and why?

Bill Shakespeare!

Why would a performer opt to do either a ticketed event or participate in the free fringe? What are the benefits and limitations of both?

I am doing both. Do both. One feeds the other!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show up to the fringe?

Do it ya LOSER!!!!
