The Artist's Studio - Laura White (online tour)

Artist Laura White has a fascinating way of looking at the world, through making art, writing and teaching. We're delighted to welcome her to The Artist's Studio, a series of online video tours where artists talk about their work and ideas.

About this event

Starts: Friday 17 July 2020 2:00 PM

Ends: Friday 17 July 2020 2:30 PM

Organised by: Meadow Arts

Laura has been busy making work throughout lockdown, and this is a chance to find out what she has been doing.

Laura White created a new piece of work,  White Mud, for Meadow Arts 2018-19 exhibition at Museum of Royal Worcester, The Precious Clay. We also showed The Esque Collection at Worcester Cathedral as part of the same show.

White's work focuses on a negotiation with the world of STUFF, i.e. interactions with materials and objects exploring ideas of value, profile, association, meaning and behaviour of materials, individual - and collections of - objects, and exploring the digital and the physical environments, which are becoming increasingly indistinguishable. Things are explored both as material stuff and anthropological signifiers that are capable of revealing the human condition - vulnerabilities and capabilities, value systems affected by consumerism and material status, and objects/human dependencies. Laura’s works occupy a fluid space, on one hand demanding critical discourse, and on the other their own ambiguous and intuitive logic.
