Femi Owolade-Coombes and South London Raspberry Jam - MozFest 2017

We're posting up the session plans for the youth led sessions at MozFest 2017.

Who'll be there?

  • Alex Owolade-Coombes, aged 6
  • Chris Coombes
  • Thomas Roberts, aged 10
  • Oscar Roberts, aged 8
  • Frank Roberts
  • Camran Mohammad (under 25 teacher Arts/computer science)
  • Stewart Tuckwood (under 25 teacher Arts/computer science)

What'll be happening?

Participants will be introduced to the microbit a mini computer with a LED display and sensors. An ice breaker game will get everyone moving whilst showing what the microbit can do. They will then design their own display animation, scroll their names and measure the temperature using a number of input features. The second part of the session will focus on the Robot:Bit buggies and team challenges to get their robots to move forward, follow a black line and using the microbit's tilt function to control the robot. The winning team will be given special set of stickers.

You can develop your own Hex files, too. Anyone wanting to try this at home will need to access https://makecode.microbit.org .

You will need to use the PXT/Javascript blocks, go to "Advanced" and add package "Bitbot" in order to use the blocks required.
