"Does not allow for the development and understand of skills or techniques that can transferred or applied.”
I hate this "criticism" art teachers make about anything they don't personally like or understand and I've found they do this a lot. Manga is arguably more "life-like" in it's aspect of the body proportions being fairly equal to the size of the head with the characteristic cartoon head, eyes and hair so I don't understand this idea that it "does not allow for the development or understanding of skills" when drawing correct body proportions is a skill that you learn in life drawing anyway. I drew manga a lot when I was in secondary school and when I went on to do GCSE art I was heavily discouraged and shamed for drawing manga (despite giving us no proper drawing classes to learn how to draw "properly") and that caused me to stop drawing altogether. Art teachers are so arrogant and haughty a lot of the time that they end up damaging students confidence rather than taking the strengths they've accumulated in one style (most people get into manga because they like drawing people for example) and helping them blossom with introduction into new styles while broadening their skills and techniques.
