Review of The Little Mermaid ballet show by the Ballet Theatre uk

My thoughts and review on the ballet show.
The show was amazing, it looked like
they had spent a lot of time on the production.
Not only on the dancing but the outfits, props and lighting.
Which very much helps pull you into the story. I imagine it was
extra magical for young ones.

The little mermaid is not a classic ballet show so it was interesting to see
how they were going to play out the story through ballet and I think
they did a pretty good job, to be honest. They went with the old original tale which is a little darker than the Disney version.

One thing I did notice is that a couple times the dancers were out
of time with the music and other dancers and the prince lost balance on a turn
but in their defence, they have been performing for the last three months
every night so you can't blame them for being a little wobbly on their feet
towards the last shows.

What I have learned from this show is a story can be told in any form of expression with skilled dancers, correct outfits, staging and lighting.I took away with me the feeling of joy that ballet gives you
the beautiful posture, the fascination with the skill, talent and story telling
through the dance.

Great review, Guinevere! I have not seen anything from the Little Mermaid ballet show. How did they invoke the underwater atmosphere? And was there a difference between the mermaids and the humans in dancing styles (as mermaids aren't supposed to have legs)?

They used backdrops and lighting for the underwater atmosphere and the little mermaid herself was carried by the male dancers in a tight tail like dress until she was human. The rest of the mermaids sat on rocks so they didn't need to dance :)
