To be an active member of the Sound Department. To work with members of the department in ensuring that effective and efficient technical support is in place for all productions, whether RSC productions or shows from other Theatres or Management companies.

Job Description

An RSC Apprenticeship provides an alternative and supportive way of accessing a career in theatre. This scheme will focus on the development of sound skills through a mix of work-based learning and coursework, allowing you to develop your practical ability and recognise your potential. As part of this 2-year apprentice programme you will work towards the successful completion of a Level 3 https://findapprenticeshiptraining.apprenticeships.education.gov.uk/courses/229 - Creative Venue Technician apprenticeship. This will enable you to gain a wide range of skills and techniques used in technical theatre.

What will I be doing?

As an Apprentice Sound Technician, you will be involved in all aspects of the Sound Department, from programming sound equipment, fault finding, repairing and maintenance of sound equipment, maintaining plots and backups of shows, to operating shows, rehearsals, and events. So, if you have an interest in sound in a theatre environment, then this is for you.

Criteria for this role includes:

  • You must be able to meet specific entry requirements of the apprenticeship and we will prioritise applicants eligible to government funding for their apprenticeship and for this the following will be required:
  • You must have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years
  • Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the programme
  • If you already have a degree in the same field or a related one, you will not be eligible to this apprenticeship.
  • Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2023 or later
  • You will be required to undertake studying and assessments required to complete the apprenticeship. This may involve an end point assessment.
  • You must have a commitment to incorporated qualifications for example, Maths and English functional skills if you don't already have them or of equivalence.
  • You must have the commitment to work flexibly as part of the team
