As part of ANIM18, BFI Film Academy are pleased to be able to offer you a full programme of screenings, talks and workshops from some of the UK’s leaders in animation. The focus is on you ... how to get started in the industry, how to get your films shown and what opportunities are out there.
This is a unique opportunity to meet guest speakers from the Film Industry and Film Festivals, enjoy screenings from BFI Acadamies animation highlights, animation shorts, surgeries, make new contacts and be with people like you who just love film and animation.

THE EVENT HAS TWO PARTS:

Daytime: 10.00 -19.00
Open to young people who have been on any BFI Film Academy from across the UK - we can even cover your travel costs

Twilight: 3.45 - 19.00
Open to all young people aged 14 to 25 years to join the event for the top-tips from Industry professionals, surgeries, screenings and Animjam!

10.30 – Welcome by West Midlands Film Academy partners & key note from University of Wolverhampton
10.50 – BFI Film Academy & Alumni Animation Showcase
11.20 – FACT OR FICTION - genre based progression routes (inc screenings) with Dr Sam Moore (award winning animated documentary maker) & Hannah Lee Miller (Peppa Pig Producer)
12.40 – COOL WAYS TO DEVELOP YOUR PORTFOLIO with NFTS graduates
13.00 - lunch & Alumni Networking & Career Surgeries & VR experience
14.00 – Aardman & Second Home Studios: what the film industry looks for when recruiting and what to expect when working in the industry – necessary skills, aptitude and attitude (includes screenings)
14.30 – WORK EXPERIENCE , UNIVERSITY & APPRENTICESHIPS - what are the options? With University of Wolverhampton & Creative Alliance
15.15 – HOW TO GET YOUR WORK SEEN & INTO FESTIVALS? Flatpack Film Festival & Arts Connect
15.30 – refreshments /comfort break

15.45 - BFI Alumni: MY STORY from BFI Academy, to craft residential, BAFTA mentoring, to Future Skills at Pinewood!
16.00 – FUTURE PRODUCTION OPPORTUNITIES: C4 Random Acts /First Acts animation screenings with Rural Media Company
17.00 - Build Your Own Film Night workshop with Flatpack
17.45– COOL WAYS TO DEVELOP YOUR PORTFOLIO with NFTS graduates
17.00 to close: Career Surgeries, Info Marketplace, Plus BFI Film Academy and students showcase:
17.30 to close: Anijam – workshop and challenge briefing with Into Film, VR experience with TAPE music and film.
