Gangsta Granny Show

Gangsta Granny is an entertaining show which can be appreciated by all age groups and has something to offer to everyone.I would recommend it to families, especially those with school-aged children.

Gangsta Granny Show

On Saturday 3rd June, I visited the Bristol Hippodrome to see 'Gangsta Granny'. This show is based on a best-selling book by David Walliams.

The story is about Ben, who is looked after by his Granny every Friday. He finds her incredibly boring, until he finds out a terrifying secret. His Granny is a Jewel Thief! When Ben discovers this, he comes up with an amazing plan to steal the Crown Jewels. The plot was very interesting and humorous. There were lots of plot twists and my favourite was the twist at the climax.

In my opinion, the actors were all very good. Everyone played their characters well and the language reflected real life. I especially liked the initial scenes, when Ben arrives at Granny's house. My favourite character was Raj, played by Devesh Kishore. He was very funny and made me laugh a lot. The actor assayed the role of Mr Parker, the nosy neighbour well. Ashley Cousins was excellent as Ben as was Gilly Tompkins as Granny.

The lighting of the stage was superb. My favourite part was when Ben stood still and shouted "NO!!!" at the audience, everything went black apart from a spotlight of red on him.

I would have preferred it if the set changes were operated electronically, as it was distracting to see people walking around the stage and moving sets. I thought that the sets could be more colourful and visually appealing.

It was great watching the actors perform as it was an enriching experience. Watching them perform, I appreciated the ways to exaggerate your expressions and movements. I learnt how to use the whole stage and not stay in one place; utilise space between actors to reflect relationships and ensure that I always face the audience.
