Life of Pi Review

Life of Pi is about a boy’s journey of being lost at sea with a tiger for 227 days.

The play begins in a grey, dull, hospital room in Mexico. As Pi begins to tell his story, the stage is full of colour and life, with even a simple butterfly has its own puppet for it to feel alive. For me, the first act storyline was a bit too slow for my taste, however I can see how people would thoroughly enjoy it. it is a visually stunning play, each different animal is played by a puppet, with 2 or 3 people controlling the more elaborate puppets. This for me is the star of the show, just the staging and incredible acting and puppeteering kept me captivated and on the edge of my seat. The actors controlling the puppets did an amazing job performing the movements of each animal. For example, the main tiger was always moved lower to the ground, like it was hunting, about to pounce for prey. I thoroughly enjoyed the play, and I would recommend it if you are interested in the more visual aspect of theatre.
