Work experience with Orion Publishing Group

What is the Orion Publishing Group?

Orion Books, a division of Hachette UK, publishes commercial, award-winning popular fiction and non-fiction, with a track record of publishing Sunday Times top ten bestsellers.

What will the work experience involve?

The work experience placement will be an opportunity for young people to see how a major publishing house works, gain an invaluable insight into the publishing industry, and learn about the role that each department plays in every step of a book’s journey.

The company are offering a monthly, paid and fully flexible/remote work experience placement for one candidate per month. During your time, you will be placed within a department and given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and gain an in-depth understanding of the publishing process. You will also have the opportunity to gain experience across different departments – attending key company meetings, as well as the chance to ‘meet’ (in person or virtually) lots of different people across the company and senior team, and receive informal mentoring or career guidance.

Who are they looking for?

Orion Publishing Group is looking for someone that has a passion for books and storytelling; someone that is keen to learn more about the publishing industry; someone pro-active with a strong work ethic and a desire to gain and apply new skills. To be eligible you must be over 18 at the point of placement and based in the UK. No prior publishing experience is required.

What do they offer?

The company offers a creative and dynamic working environment and pro-rata pay in line with the Orion starting salary of £23,500 per annum. We also fully support flexible and remote working.
