This exciting competition is run by award winning video production company Elstree Film Design and sponsored by Elstree Studios, London's No.1 film and television studio, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the UK's newest and most exciting film studio, Spotlight, the UK's leading casting resource, and Creative England who are dedicated to the growth of the creative industries.

It originally began in 2014 as a pilot, commissioned by Royal Opera House Bridge, to gauge the interest of children and young people aged 7-19 across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and North Kent. It was so well received that the Bridge supported the competition again in 2015. Elstree Film Design now intend to continue running the project into the future with the support of industry sponsorship.

Entrants are encouraged to create new films and animations around this year's theme 'A Sense of Humour'. They have until Friday 29th April to develop, shoot, and edit an original 90-second film or animation from scratch.

New to this year there are ten award categories (up from last year's five) as well as three new age groupings: Primary (up to 11), Secondary (11-18), and 18-25, which means a total of 30 awards will be up for grabs. These awards will recognise both creative and technical achievements and are: Best Film, Best Animation, Best Idea, Best Story, Best Look, Best Sound, Best Design, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Cast.

Film and TV industry professionals will judge the films, including Academy Award winning action director and stuntman Vic Armstrong, Managing Director of Screen South Jo Nolan, actor Phil Winchester (Thunderbirds, Flyboys, Crusoe, Strikeback), and multiple BAFTA, RTS and VES award winning, EMMY nominated VFX supervisor Phil Dobree. Winners will be invited to attend a fantastic award ceremony at the BFI Southbank on Thursday 2nd June, where they will get to see their films on the big screen, and have the opportunity to network with film and television industry professionals.

Never made a film before? Don't have the "right" equipment? Not a problem! Online resources full of useful information are available though the website as well as links to opportunities with sponsors and supporters. Elstree Film Design will also be delivering a limited number of sponsored film and animation workshops for children and young people whilst the competition runs.
