The Marlowe Theatre is looking for a technical apprentice. 

Technical Apprentice

The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury is a large-scale, independent theatre, with a 1,200-seat Main House, a 150-seat Studio and The Marlowe Kit, home of their youth company. They present a year-round programme of national touring productions across a range of artforms including theatre, dance, opera, and music. Since becoming a self-funding independent charitable trust in 2018 they have begun to develop a more mixed economy, with a 5-year plan to commission and produce work at all scales alongside the presented programme. Supporting artists, engaging with our communities, and developing the creative lives of the next generation are central to their mission to be the engine house for the performing arts in their region and to shape the spirit of Kent.

They are seeking a Technical Apprentice to join their Technical team delivering excellent technical support for the Marlowe Theatre programme whilst simultaneously working towards Level 3 Creative Venue Technician qualification.

You will develop a broad range of technical skills and knowledge related to the entertainment industry that will lead to further opportunities.

You will need to be an outgoing and approachable team player with an interest in the theatre industry and a developing awareness of health and safety.

Experience of working on performances or productions in schools or amateur dramatics would be desirable. Able to work through problems. Will need basic IT, literacy and numeracy skills or willingness to work towards.

Some experience of working on performances or productions(maybe school, amateur dramatics etc)

Job Responsibilities

The Apprentice Technician will work as part of the team delivering excellent technical support for the Marlowe Theatre programme.

Creatively support and deliver the Marlowe's live performance productions

Contribute to the upkeep of the Marlowe venue and touring production sets and equipment

Read, interpret, and give appropriate technical advice to colleagues and clients

Work in a safe and legal way to comply with regulatory and legislative requirements and industry best practice

Develop effective working relationships both internally and externally
