Friends of Voice Newsletter December 2022

Thank you for your support of Voice in 2022!

Your generosity has enabled us to reach more young people. Here we highlight two projects from the year and
Sadhana shares her journey with Voice.
Please take a look at our Annual Review 2021/22 to see what else we've been up to.

Kickstart Programme - Our Kickstart Programme has now helped over 44 young people find their voice and their place in the arts, media and creative industries! “I gained a lot of confidence and was able to develop my passions in music interviews and storytelling. Voice gave me connections, new skills and people that I can call on in times to come”
Voice Outreach - In the past few weeks, we have launched our newest Voice Outreach programme in 5 areas across the UK designed to help young people explore new arts and cultural organisations in their area and learn the skills needed to become a Young Arts Reviewer. This programme is very much in early stages and we are excited to report back on the impact later in the year!

Champions for youth voice in the arts

During 2022 we've worked with more organisations to support young people's voices in the arts. We've engaged with some iconic arts organisations, such as Royal Shakespeare Company and Scottish Youth Dance, supported youth participation in Leicester and Nottingham and trained youth trustees in Warwickshire.

Meet Sadhana:

From Local Reviewer to Young Trainer & Edinburgh Fringe

I started my journey with Voice as part of Voice Outreach, reviewing films for my Silver Arts Award. This was through my local theatre, the New Vic, Stoke on Trent. I got the opportunity to see two art forms I had never experienced before: ballet and opera.

After reviewing these and writing more pieces, Voice Editor Tom Inniss asked me to become a Voice Contributor and from there, I have gone on to co-facilitate workshops for Voice and review at Edinburgh Fringe.

At Voice, we are proud to see Sadhana go from strength to strength and
we plan to support many more young people's progress into the arts in the coming years!
