Graffiti is writing or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place. Graffiti is illegal but some regard it as an art. But is it really art?
Some say that graffiti is wrong but it is only considered wrong because it is illegal and so it does not mean that is not art. If someone makes a big painting with a lot of detail the person is considered an artist so why isn't graffiti an art? Graffiti is a form of art but it is one which is very difficult. Although on the other hand some say that graffiti is vandalism. They may believe that graffiti is vandalism because they see graffiti as destruction of others property. They may argue that graffiti is not an art because art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power which is created on the property of the owner wants the art created on. People who are against graffiti being considered an art would query a lot things such as, why do graffiti 'artists' do their work on canvas? Or why do you they need to destroy public property?
A few may see art as anything that is beautiful or appealing which needs skills and technique, these are all things needed for graffiti so why isn't it art? However some state that graffiti has no meaning and that is pointless. Although Banksy is a graffiti 'artist' who adds a valuable or a political message that he wants to get across.
Having graffiti on private property is seen usually as crime because where they do graffiti doesn't belong to them, however when graffiti is done in tunnels it is seen as art because the general public enjoy the view of it.
Overall I think that graffiti is an art because it is creative and the artists can express themselves through this.
In my opinion, Graffiti falls under the same rebellious spectrum as punk rock and skateboarding - it's part of that subculture that rebels against what is considered "normal art" and acts as more of a statement. Banksy is a great example because they incorporate politics into their work and use graffiti to defy the establishment.
