I love their lifestyle over here and I already know I’m going to head back to the capital feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Whilst I’m here, I thought I would do a run-down of my three favourite things to do in this idyll of relaxation and good vibes...
1) Lyon Arboretum
Established in 1918, Lyon Arboretum is a must see for any first-time visitors. Originally created to help test various tree species to see how they could be used in reforestation; the arboretum is now home to over 15,000 plant species and its collection is still growing. With over 7 miles of hiking tracks, water features dispersed throughout the park, and different gardens to showcase all the beautiful plats that they have, the Lyon Arboretum is a must see for any nature lover.
2) Hanauma Bay
Based on the most easterly side of Honolulu, Hanauma Bay is the Island’s most popular snorkelling haunt. Set in a crater, the bay is a nature reserve and marine sanctuary featuring some of the world’s most unique and beautiful wild life. You can bring your own snorkelling equipment or rent it there, and the only requirement is that you watch a five minute video on safety and marine preservation before stepping into the bay’s crystal clean waters.
3) Guided Hike to Manoa Waterfall
Manoa is the tallest accessible waterfall in the district, and one of the most impressive sights I have ever seen. I first saw the Manoa Waterfall on a small guided Hike and I would thoroughly recommend this. The Hike takes you to this secluded spot of natural beauty, and along the way you get to stop and see various famous movie locations. The tour is highly personalised, and you can choose either a morning or afternoon pickup.
Whether you’re a Hawaii fan, or had never even thought of it for you holidays, I hope this list has shown you a different side to this paradise island! Where ever you're spending your summer this year I hope you find some time to relax and reflect on the first half of this year. Happy July!
My Top Recommendations in Honolulu
It had been far too long since my last holiday, and so I decided to leave hot London (and the hell that is the tube in the summer…) and head to Hawaii!
