Perhaps I just wasn't in the spirit of Cabaret, or perhaps this was a severely misjudged array of uncomfortably inappropriate sketches. Set on the platform of an underground tube station, this frequently used, foolproof device sprung up all sorts of threads for sequences that followed, spotlighting the stories of a platform guard, a tired commuter and the revolutionary rats of London. Even Marx would be baffled by this peculiar arrangement.

The 18+ rating is definitely justified, as the show opens with semi-naked women and closes with an actor dressed as weed. At times it bordered on offensive, but this did not faze the boozed up audience, who reveled in the actors daring stunt to ignore political correctness. Truly embracing festival convention.

What the cast lacked in polish, they made up for in energy. Their breath visible in the cold performance space, they bound from routine to routine, blissfully lacking self-consciousness - despite their semi-nude state. This successfully eased the more conservative viewers, the actor's confidence creating an atmosphere of harmful cheekiness and charm that was hard to resist.

If you are in need of escapism, a cheap laugh and are willing to question your morals, 'Cabaret OTT' may just be the perfect remedy for your exhausting weekly commute. Your head however, may require something stronger for the morning after…
