The MOBO Awards have announced their nominees for this year’s award show. Leading the list are Ghetts, Little Simz, Arlo Parks and Dave, just to name a few. The MOBO Awards celebrate black music and culture, and this year the awards show will be held at the Coventry Building Society Arena on 5 December. The event will be livestreamed on Youtube and will also air on the BBC.
Rapper Dave is nominated for five awards, including Best Male Act, Best Hip-Hop Act and Album Of The Year, for the LP ‘ We’re All Alone In This Together’. Cleo Sol, Arlo Parks and Little Simz are nominated for three awards each, including Best Female Act. Parks and Sol are also nominated for Album Of The Year for their albums, ‘Collapsed In Sunbeams’ and ‘Mother’, respectively. They share the category with Dave, Celeste, with her record ‘Not Your Muse’, Ghetts, with ‘Conflict Of Interest’ and Headie One, with ‘Edna’.
Central Cee has been nominated for four awards, Best Male Act, Best Newcomer, Best Drill Act and Song Of The Year, for his track ‘Commitment Issues’. Other artists found within the Best Newcomer category will include BERWYN and Joy Crookes amongst others.
Artists outside of the UK have also been nominated, those who are up for the Best INternational Artist award include musicians like Kanye West, Drake, Lil Nas X and Megan Thee Stallion.
The founder and CEO of MOBO Group, Kanya King CBE, has said: “The past 20 months have been extremely challenging for artists everywhere but as always we are seeing creatives rise up and adapt, even in a global pandemic.” She continued, “this year’s crop of MOBO nominees have not only shown resilience but incredible talent and range. We could not be prouder to celebrate their achievements across the 18 categories that span genres, as well as excellence in TV, film and media.
