Kanye West sparks backlash as he features Marilyn Manson at Sunday Service livestream

Kanye West brought back his Sunday Service livestream last week, but caused controversy as he featured alleged sex offender Marilyn Manson, in yet another instance of the two artists being seen together since Manson was accused of the crimes at the start of the year.

West, who has recently legally changed his name to Ye, also invited Justin Bieber and Roddy Ricch to the service, but the most talked about guest was Manson, who has denied allegations made by the accusing women, including his former partner Evan Rachel Wood. He has called the allegations “horrible distortions of reality”.

This is not the first time that his presence with West has seen scrutiny, as the rapper controversially brought him out during a listening party for his most recent album DONDA in Chicago back in August. When the album was finally released, nearly a year after it’s intended release date, Manson was credited as a songwriter for the tracks Jail and Jail Part 2.

A previously dismissed allegation of sexual, physical, and psychological abuse was re-filed in US court last month by Game of Thrones star Esmé Bianco. The lawsuit filed in April alleges that Manson would leave cuts and bruises that left permanent scars on Bianco whilst they were together. The case also states that Manson would chase Bianco with an axe and would humiliate her in front of guests by playing her Game of Thrones scenes.

Manson and Ye were joined by another masked figure, as reported by NME, whom many claim to be rapper DaBaby. He also caused controversy when performing at a Rolling Loud festival in Miami, Florida, where he spouted hateful homophobic statements to the crowd, and has been seen around West in a similar capacity as Manson as of late.

Seeing the trio dressed in white, together within a religious performance is an utterly bizarre spectacle, especially considering Manson’s recent controversies, alongside the musicians anti-religious persona. The rocker was dropped by his record label, Lorna Vista Recordings, and vehemently denies any wrongdoings, despite that, this service seems like more of West’s strange PR stunting than anything, and is distasteful at best.
