The BRIT Awards were last night! Did you stay up to watch the show? I did! It’s one of my favourite events from the awards season, there’s just something so fun about the night. So who scooped an award, and were my predictions right?
Billie Eilish - okay, let’s be real. Anyone could have called this one. She’s already swept the board at the Grammys, walking away with a staggering five awards. So it really was no surprise when her name was called to win the International Female Solo Artist of the Year Award. She debuted the new Bond single as well - what a tune!
Dave won best album! I’m so happy for him, what an incredible talent that man is. His album Psychodrama is an absolute riot from start to finish, and is well deserving of the Mastercard Album of the Year Award. However, it would be nice to see some more ladies nominated in this category next year please!
You’d be hard pushed to find someone more deserving of Best New Artist or Best Song than the one and only Lewis Capaldi. ‘Someone You Loved’ was a smash hit, reaching number one all over the globe. Watching him perform it live on the night, it was clear that this man was deserving of the award, with hopefully many more to come in the future.
Best Solo Male Artist was always going to be Stormzy. He is the pride of Britain right now, with his second album, Heavy is the Head, continuing his quest to bring grime into the mainstream. It earned him his first UK number one single with ‘Vossi Bop’ and got unanimous positive reviews from the critics. He further won over the public with his stellar Glastonbury performance, which was a weekend highlight of the festival.
Overall, I got quite a lot right! With talent like this, though, it was anyone’s game. What a great year for British music!
