3 Day Mask Making Course

Make your own mask from the new wonder material - Worbla. These courses are aimed at performers, makers, teachers and Cosplayers to enable participants to create a strong and effective mask without specialist equipment.

3 Day Mask Making Course

Led by Russell Dean, Artistic Director of Strangeface and mask maker for Vamos, Trestle and Geese Theatre Company. Russell has also made masks and puppets that featured on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Ben and Holly Live and Billy Elliot.

Participants will learn:

  • What makes a good mask
  • How to sculpt in clay
  • How to take a plaster mould
  • How to use Worbla
  • Effective paint techniques

On the final day they will explore the potential of the masks in performance.

There are 2 event of 3 days each -

  • Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th July 2017
  • Wednesday 16th to Friday 18th August 2017

Bethan Tomlinson is Producer for Strangeface Theatre Company and Operations and Touring Manager for Ideas Test Creative People and Places project. She trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama from 1992-5 and has since worked as a touring Performer, Bookshop Assistant, Storyteller, Receptionist, Live Event Manager at Historic Royal Palaces, Waitress, Writer, Co-director of theatre company since 2001, funded and managed Tunbridge Wells Puppetry Festival 2015-7, Workshop Leader, Co-ordinator for a national group of puppetry organisers and sold masks to schools, groups and artists around the world.
