My desire to draw people has massively grown over this part year through doing my Gold Arts Award. It forces me to churn out portraits and sketches whenever possible and I love it. In doing a course that is based on the aspects of art that I enjoy, I have pushed myself and improved in my ability a lot which I am proud of as I don't think I would've if I had chosen another route. Through social media I have found many, many artists who have inspired me to keep an eye out for fascinating subjects to draw and who have influenced my style; I have learnt a lot from them. I think the reason I feel compelled to draw faces is that there is always that slight challenge to see how alike you can get it to look, and the more I draw the more I see fine details of the face that I would've missed before.
Portraits
A few of the portraits that I have been working on over the past few weeks for Unit 1 Part A of my Gold Arts Award.
I was trying to figure out my style while I did these quick sketches and just get something down. I love how they all overlap and some of the drawings are concealed.
I am particularly fond of these portraits of my mum and sister and I as I think I got the likeness to the reference photos.
I was experimenting with simplicity, line pressure and contrast with this drawing of my family and I.
This is one of my favourite and best self portraits. I used 2B and 5B pencils and fine liners for the earphones. I prefer to block out any clothing in all of my drawings as I think it keeps the focus on the face and doesn't get too busy with all the shading.
An acrylic painting of my friend that I did for my GCSE art. It's the only acrylic painting that I've stuck with enough to finish; it was very rewarding so I would love to do more.
A portrait of my sister (top left), my best friend (bottom right) and two self portraits. I used biro for this and I'm pleased with how it turned out as my previous drawings using biro have turned out scratchy and flat! A lot of my inspiration comes from Neva Hosking, an 'inner city art hermit' as she calls herself.
Some simple little drawings of a few girls that I thought would be fun to draw.
I felt compelled to draw him and his tattoos!
I love drawing side profiles because of how the light that bounces of the nose and theres usually a lot of texture in the lips and eye lids, so I enjoyed drawing this girl, as well as how her hair falls.
I never really draw children so this was new for me!
YOUR DRAWINGS ARE AMAZING!!
