Georgia and The Vintage Youth are an outfit fronted by singer-songwriter and Essex girl Georgia Crandon and who takes inspiration from the likes of Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse to name but a few. Their new single ‘Overthinker’ is taken from the forthcoming EP of the same name and combines the subjects of uncertainty and dissatisfaction which come from your early twenties. As she sings “The days turn into weeks, turn into months,” you could be forgiven for thinking that Georgia has access to a time machine given how the year 2020 has played out!
Lyrically, ‘Overthinker’ would appeal to fans of Jamie Cullum who has recently won an Ivor Novello for the Amy Winehouse-inspired ‘Age Of Anxiety’ and also penned the hit ‘Twentysomething’ which deals with same questions posed by Georgia and The Vintage Youth such as “There’s got to be more to life then this?” as the youth of today turn into huddled masses travelling to work so that can buy stuff that they don’t really need with money they don’t have whilst the big bad wolf of student loan debt casts a shadow.
Written whilst she was working in a pub, ‘Overthinker’ the rhythmic drum beat and rich horn section help create a catchy tune as she explains “I’m passing through my twenties quick, and nothing seems to change”. Her smooth voice is easy on the ear with a 60’s pop tinge perfect for radio.
In conclusion, Georgia and The Vintage Youth have crafted a thoughtful track with a street-party vibe that will have people tapping their feet as they wait with anticipation for the new EP.
‘Overthinker’ is released on the 24th September 2020 the same day as the EP.
