On 14th April I attended a Mosaic Workshop in Brighton. It was run by Gillian Steer, she is an artist and she creates mosaics inspired by what she paints. I got to try making mosaics using a variety of mediums including glass tiles, pottery and ceramics.
I chose to attend this workshop to learn how to do mosaics properly and create my own designs.
I started off doing a small, practice mosaic using ceramics, so I could get to grips with the tiles. Then I moved on to a bigger one using pottery, which I thought was good because it allows you to use different heights. After that I started my final pieces using glass tiles which are brilliant because there is an extraordinary range of different colours and you can cut them into shapes easily.
I can let my imagination run free whilst doing mosaics. This course was brilliant as I have learnt to cut tiles and grout properly and come up with my own designs.
I enjoyed it because Gillian was always there to help and there was a huge variety of options to work with. I had fun experimenting with different materials and completing several mosaics from start to finish.
And more research and learning - Good on you Grace! That lizard and Do Not Disturb is great!! I hope you take this forward - you obviously enjoy this and I am sure you will create something to be proud of. Keep us up to date with how its going.
