Beazley Designs of the Year 2017

Beazley Designs of the Year:

I went to the Design Museum (W8 6AG) to visit the Beazley Designs of the Year exhibition on the 6th of December 2017. There was a variety of products and ideas on display from fashion to architecture. In the exhibition the displays tackled many topics such as refugees, inequality and environmental problems. I went to this event as it had many unique products which helped me be inspired and see how products can help others and tackle problems.

There was a lot of variety in the exhibition and each display was unique and helped people see how simple ideas can solve large problems. For example one of the products tackled air pollution of cars by creating ink out of small particles that come out of exhaust engines of cars. I thought this was very clever as it made use of the pollution caused by cars as well as reducing the pollution that can lead to many health problems. It also helped me realise that the products I make can make a difference to the environment. Another design I really liked was a drone that was designed to help refugees. The drone will detect boats carrying refugees and drop life jackets, food and medication. I liked the drone as it showed how a product can be used to help save many lives. The drone also made me realise that the products I make can have a certain feature that can help people instead of only being used as a piece of decoration. Another product I saw was lego that was designed so that it could stick to anything (e.g. walls) allowing people to build designs that could be upside down. The lego was also very flexible allowing people to easily make different shapes. I liked this product as it helped me realise that existing products can be improved and become more appealing to the current market. This will help me in my project as I am upcycling old products so that they will be more appealing to people.

The Beazley Designs of the year exhibition helped me see how much a product can impact others as well as inspire me to make my products more innovative.
