Billy Bragg 7/12/23

Billy Bragg is a famous singer songwriter with a strong political message. He is the voice of the people.

Billy Bragg is a funny guy! He spoke about his Shacket that he was wearing. He cares deeply about Trans rights and was horrified that people came to his gig in cork with signs saying 'there are only two genders - male and female'. He said that we need to teach our sons to to respect women.

He had two guys with him onstage including a pianist and a guy who could play guitar mandolin and tabletop slide guitar.

I thought it was funny that he said he was terrified of his backing band.

His in between song banter made me laugh out loud a lot of times which is unusual.

For several of his songs he let the crowd finish the lines which they did loud enough which not many people could do. He did this in New England and To Have and To Have Not. It was a great feeling to hear the crowd sing 'Im not looking for a new England' and 'Just because you're better than me doesn't mean I'm lazy Just because you're going forward doesn't mean I'm going backwards.'

He played a 17 minute encore on his famous stripped Gibson copy guitar that he used to play which had a raw sound. Everyone loved this so much.

For new fans I'd recommend listening to New England, There's Power In A Union and To Have and To Have Not.
