Be a Change Maker at the Horniman - open call for applicants

Change Makers is an Arts Council-funded senior leadership programme designed in response to the under-representation of Black, minority ethnic and disabled leaders across the cultural sector. The programme aims to better support aspiring leaders from under-represented groups to compete on merit in the future for senior leadership roles. The funding will provide valuable experience at a senior level in a cultural organisation along with training and development. The programme will help the organisation to effect a cultural change so it becomes more open and diverse while also facilitating the development of the creative case within the sector.

The Horniman, as a Major Partner museum is intending to apply to the Change Makers Fund for funding which will enable an individual to work at a senior level in the organisation. If the funding bid is successful we will be able to support a senior leadership training and development placement linked to creative development and programming.

The Horniman would like to hear from Black, minority ethnic or disabled cultural professionals who would like to co-develop an application with us.

We are looking for someone to develop the programme for our new studio space. The studio will be the focus for a programme of participatory work, linking our audience and community partners with emerging artists who have an interest in developing socially engaged work. The result will be a vibrant and diverse programme which extends across the whole Horniman site, providing new ways of contextualising our collections and meaningful benefits for visitors and community partners.

We want to develop the funding bid with someone who has an existing track record in creative programming a cultural organisation; is active in a professional network connected to participatory art practice; is able to advocate the Arts Council's Creative Case for Diversity; is a flexible team player and problem solver as well as an influencer and change agent; and is willing (if the bid is successful) to work as a member of staff at the Horniman and support the organisation's values including reciprocity and co-creation.

The role would be part of our curatorial and public engagement team. The placement would be for at least 12 months between 1 October 2016 and 31 December 2018.

If you are interested please send your CV and a personal statement, no more than 2 sides A4, describing why you want to be a Change Maker at the Horniman and how well you fit our criteria. The address for applications is [email protected]
