Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?
Hello, my name is Gary Lamont and I am a recently unemployed actor.
How would you describe your show?
It is a desperate attempt at creating a new employment venture for myself, with comedy songs and some very special career advice from my celebrity friends.
Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe?
It is the biggest arts festival in the world, it is right on my doorstep and i am afforded the delicious luxury of creating the most fabulous show for myself.
What differentiates it from other festivals?
It's got a castle.
Do you think the Fringe has changed over the years? If so, how? Are these changes positive or negative?
I can't really comment on that due to last year being my fringe debut as a performer. As an audience member, the advent of the free fringe has totally transformed it, which is wonderful.
What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?
I had no real notion of "entering the industry" I grew up in Castlemilk in Glasgow and had no idea there was an industry for me to enter. I applied to college to do acting after high school, which then lead to drama school, where i honed my craft and skills. I am a lucky, lucky boy.
If you didn't have your current job, what would you probably be doing?
I always fancied myself as a linguist; despite speaking zero other languages!
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
The aforementioned linguist job, with a plethora of languages at my fingertips or tongue.
What is your earliest childhood art memory?
Being an audience member on the Singing Kettle. I have never felt more famous.
Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?
Not at all, I only do stuff that makes me giggle.
Equally, do you think there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?
No.
Describe the last year in 5 words or less?
A wonderful mind fuck.
If you could work with anybody, from any point in history, who would you pick and why?
I would have loved to have been a songwriter with the Spice Girls when they penned those albums, that wouldn't have been a trial to do. Also it would lead to lots of lovely royalties forevermore.
Why would a performer opt to do either a ticketed event or participate in the free fringe? What are the benefits and limitations of both?
I've only done ticketed and couldn't comment on the the benefits or limitations of the free fringe.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show up to the fringe?
Make yourself laugh. We are entertaining, not saving lives.
