About this event

Starts: Friday 19 February 2021 6:00 PM

Ends: Friday 19 February 2021 7:00 PM

This week, we will be joined by multi-talented musician Grace Harman. Join us on IG Live @ 6 pm. to meet Grace, and to ask her all your burning questions about music from a true veteran of the industry.

About Grace

I am a trumpeter and pianist and have just started a 4-year music degree at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, specialising in trumpet.

I was a member of the Suffolk Youth Orchestra for three years, and one of my fondest memories was when I played the offstage trumpet solo in Bizet’s Carmen Suite, in tour venues abroad and a sold-out audience at the Snape Maltings Proms. I worked part-time as a pianist for two dancing classes run by the Co-op Juniors Theatre Company. I have also performed as a freelancer around Suffolk, playing in jazz bands, big bands, solo performances, brass bands, quartets, chamber music, offstage trumpet solos, pit bands, wind bands, and have led and conducted ensembles. I have also played at Ronnie Scot’s Jazz Club and am a part of British Youth Music Theatre’s Musician Pool.

I am a Trustee for the Suffolk charity, SMART, who’s aims are to provide funding to young people interested in music and the arts. I have attended meetings, organised fundraisers, and played at Latitude Festival to promote the charity.

I am also a regular with local radio stations and newspapers, and from October 2020, I had a regular segment on BBC Radio Suffolk documenting life as a music student.

I am also a music teacher, and currently teach children the piano, which happens online whilst I am living in Manchester.

During Lockdown in 2020, I collaborated with the composer Maurice Davies, to create a new solo work for the trumpet, called The Jet Set. Maurice kindly wrote the 3-piece work with me in mind, and we worked together to produce and record the work. I’m pleased to announce that the music is available to purchase.

My long-term aim is to become a professional musician.  I’m a keen follower of musical theatre in my spare time, and my dream would be to play in a West-End pit band. For more details: www.graceharmanmusic.co.uk
