Meadow Arts and University of Worcester’s Fine Art department are delighted to present the Art House Open Lecture Series2019-20, a fifth season of talks in Worcester by some of the most exciting contemporary artists working in the UK. The free talks take place at the University's brand new art studios, The Art House in Worcester City Centre on selected Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, and include a chance to ask questions after each presentation. The talks are free and open to all; booking is recommended.

Whether deploying disco music in opposition to fascism, recording a rhythm ‘n’ blues album about tax avoidance, or proposing art schools be built over golf courses, Chris Alton’s work addresses the interconnected nature of prevailing social, political, economic and environmental conditions.

In 2012 he founded English Disco Lovers (EDL), a protest group that looked to reclaim the 'EDL' acronym of the English Defence League. The project involved; online occupations, street-level protests, club nights, talks and exhibitions. Other projects include Under the Shade I Flourish (2015-16), in which a 1960s rhythm 'n' blues band discussed the interconnected nature of Britain's colonial history, tax avoidance and soft power. In 2017 he curated You're Surrounded by Me at Turf Projects, Croydon.

Chris was a participant in Syllabus III and his exhibitions & commissions include; Link & Shift, Eastside Projects, Birmingham (2019); Survey, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art; Bluecoat, Liverpool; g39, Cardiff (all 2019), Jerwood Space, London (2018); Bloomberg New Contemporaries, South London Gallery (2018-19) & Liverpool John Moore University, Liverpool Biennial (2018).
