Life's a laugh sometimes isn't it? And frankly so can be gaining your qualifications!

Personally I think if you work somewhere and can only ever think about the weekend, you're in the wrong job. Enjoying what you do and considering your job as part as your life (not the adage of work to live) is vital. And frankly this is a must in the arts world. Unfortunately not many people in the creative industries become filthy rich; although with some dedication and hard work I see plenty of people earning a comfortable living.

When work gets stressful or too full on, I find the best way to unwind is with a great bit of comedy. I have a varied taste- enjoying slapstick to political satire. I have missed some apparently great comedy TV shows like House almost entirely.

Whilst I appreciate much of the comedy drawn from programmes like Balls of Steel I do draw the line in physical comedy at many of the stunts and humour of shows such as Jackass.

Over the years I've found solice in shows including:

  • Friends (the undeniable sitcom of both millennium's)
  • Everybody loves Raymond
  • Fraiser
  • The IT Crowd
  • American Dad
  • Family Guy
  • Green wing
  • and Only fools and horses

I also love most panel comedy programmes coming from the BBC and channel 4; 8 out of 10 cats and mock the week included. But I have more recently found radio comedy. 'Just a minute' and 'The News Quiz' especially.

So when you find there's too much on, need some inspiration, or simply want to unwind, comedy may be your answer.

And whilst you're at it, consider the usefulness of comedy in extending your arts experience in Gold unit 1!
