Immersion Theatre’s The Wizard of Oz: Boundless zeal and zest!

From the very first moment, the production screamed (or rather sung) ‘pantomime’. Emanating endless energy, as well as including plenty of audience interaction, the five-strong cast put on a magical performance. Though simple and stationary, the set was colourful and eye catching and had even the tiniest of children agog. Better still, the actors had the zeal to match it!

Cute and catchy songs punctuated the performance with simple dance routines which immediately had children on their feet. Unlike your average panto-type production, everything about this show was perfectly age appropriate from the puns and jokes to the dances and dialogue. But before you adults hesitate about resigning yourself to a long and repetitive hour-and-a-half, don’t! Seamlessly condensed so not nearly as drawn-out as I envisaged, it was actually quite entertaining for everyone.

Despite being a children’s show, the actors themselves were very talented. Sweet but bolshy Dorothy had an angelic voice which harmonised very pleasantly with those of her co-stars. And on a side note, kudos to them all for maintaining that superb enthusiasm throughout, whilst wearing heavy costumes in 30-degree heat!

Music, dance, laughs and parties galore this enchanting family entertainment will keep kids of all ages utterly and delightfully enraptured. Look out for Immersion Theatre!
