Creative Lab is an artist development programme that explores how digital technologies can be pivotal for artistic practice, with a focus on experimentation, intervention and performativity.
Over three months and two special Creative Lab weekenders, 20 Greater Manchester-based artists will explore how digital ideas can enhance artistic development through masterclasses, mentoring and hands-on workshops.
Candidates get priority access to select MIF19 events and an £800 bursary to spend on developing digital creative responses to the Festival programme, with opportunities to promote these responses via MIF’s channels and other online platforms.
Creative Lab is open to Greater Manchester-based artists aged 18+ from across the spectrum of the arts and creativity, regardless of whether or not they’ve previously used advanced technology in their work.
Creative Lab will run over two weekends, 18-19 May and 1-2 June.

Creative Lab follows the success of Creative 50 in 2017, a project which invited aspiring and emerging artists from across Greater Manchester to create collaborative and individual online responses to the world-class events held throughout the Festival.
Jennifer Gaskell, a participant in 2017 said, ‘What I loved about being part of Creative50 was just getting out of my bubble of people who make art just like me. Being surrounded by people from all sorts of creative backgrounds really freed up my practice.’
MIF runs a year-round programme of creative and social activities right across Greater Manchester, from social evenings and library meet-ups to micro-festivals in people’s homes and one-off opportunities to develop your talent.
