The core activity of the Wilderness Archive is to perform area studies and develop collaborations with local stakeholders in remote (yet accessible) regions of the planet. The project outcome is a multimedia archive telling the story of such regions from multiple perspectives and exhibited in a contemporary art context. Ongoing research currently taking place in the Tusheti region of Georgia and research on prospective locations focusing on islands/archipelagos. Research areas span across multiple aspects of each ecosystem, from architecture to religious beliefs, water infrastructure to plant life.
Applications welcome from all disciplines, with preference given to human geographers, anthropologists, historians of contemporary cultures. You have a phd or an MA in a connected field, or equivalent research experience. You write well for a general audience.
Work is predominantly remote, with occasional site visits. You are a native english speaker or equivalent, and are not afraid of travelling to and moving around complex and physically challenging environments.
